Fortis College employees knowledgeable instructors that enhance the educational outcomes of the students enrolled. Although the current instructor population is well versed on teaching in the classroom, many do not understand how to use various technologies available for use in the classroom. The focus of this workshop will be to promote several technologies that instructors can use to enhance the product delivered to the student in the classroom.
Today's workshop has been scheduled to associate faculty and staff to various technologies that are available for use on campus. A majority of the topics that will be covered will assist faculty with enhancing classroom instruction, however, staff will be able to use materials for purposes, such as saving documents into new spaces, using social media websites to promote campus interaction with student.
Throughout the presentation, team members will be asked to participate and show evidence of their understanding of the material. A pre-training assessment tool has been provided and upon completion of today's events, a post-training assessment will be given. For those that may be interested, in 3-6 months, I will be conducting a follow up assessment to determine if the products and materials covered during the session have been beneficial to your work environment.
The topics that will be covered during today's event include:
1. The Student Information System and how it can be used to post grades, assignments, syllabi, and other products for your students.
2. The Library Resource Information Network (LIRN) database to learn about the additional research capabilities that are available for our students. Additionally, it gives you insight into the same network that you may wish to use to find research material for use in the classroom.
3. Our campus has a network share folder where students and can post assignments. During this session, we will walk through the process with you of setting up a folder for your classes. This will allow students to input their material into one designated area for review.
4. During the last phase of the presentation, I would like to show you some of the various web tools that are available for you to use inside and outside of the classroom. Items such as Google Docs, Power Point, Engrade, and Facebook will be covered.
